Over the past few weeks Lilly constantly amazes me at how she is capable at doing the things the other bigger kids do too. If she can't figure it out right away, she works at it for 20, 30, and even sometimes 40 minutes until she can do it. She constantly amazes me at how long her attention span is. I feel like most kids her age would get tired of it and move onto something else. But no, Lilly has extreme perserverance and presses on until she accomplishes what it is she set out to do. This morning she decided she was big enough for the tricycle that all the other kids ride on. I watched her for probably 30 minutes trying to climb onto the tricycle and swing her leg over to the other side, so that there was a leg on each side. She could climb up onto the seat but then didn't know what to do next. Several times I tried helping her but my hands were swiftly pushed aside. If she could have talked she would have said, "no mom, I'll do it." So here is the final accomplishment of Lillian's morning:
Notice that there is a leg on both sides. Now that she mastered that, she felt she should move around on it too. She spent another 20 minutes trying to figure out what to do. She finally realized that if she pushes by her feet, the tricycle moves back. So the next thing I know, she's moving around all over the place by going backwards. I was able to capture her laughing and feeling proud about her accomplishment:
Of course after all that playing around outside and crawling around inside, Lilly was pretty tired. She has finally cut out her morning nap and is taking pretty much one long nap a day in the afternoon with all the other kids. She does get very tired at about 11 but I don't put everyone else down for a nap until 11:45 or so. So every morning I set her in the highchair with lunch and that usually helps her stay awake and happy until it's time to sleep. Today, I could tell she was really tired but I still needed to change diapers and lay everyone down. Lilly was in the other room in her highchair and wasn't crying so I figured she was happy until I could get her. Little did I know that this is why she was quiet!
She didn't open one eye while I took her bib off, carried her into the nursery and laid her down. I felt kinda bad that she had to resort to falling asleep in her highchair but not too bad to snap a picture before I took her to bed. :)
Well, I could go on and on about my little one but I think I've probably written plenty. I did want to add a couple of things. Lilly is such an affectionate child. Granted, both of her parents are pretty affectionate as well, so I wonder where she gets that from?! But it's so great to have a little girl kiss and hug you back. Her kisses consist of open mouth, drooling, snot nosed kisses, but who cares! She also gives Aunt Pam and Uncle Brian hugs and recently when Grandma B was visiting she was giving them out to her right and left. I really enjoy that. No matter how the day is going, when I get the little snuggle into my neck, all my worries wash away and I can't help but thank God for an affectionate little baby.
This picture is for you Logan cause I don't mean to leave out the cute pictures of you and Lilly!

Awww! Poor little Lilly - I'm glad she mastered getting on and moving around on her little tricycle!
At least she didn't fall asleep with her head face down in her food or something totally crazy...
I love your blog...it's hard to live so far away from friends especially when they have little ones that I wish I could be an honorary aunt to and be around more...
Love you Mel!
Melanie, I just love looking at your blog and the pictures of Lilly growing up. You write it all down so well. At least we can enjoy some of Lilly's accomplishements at a distance but we do miss those drooling, snotty kisses. Really we do.
